Genomics is now standard medicine in the NHS . But conversations around health and ancestry can feel quite scary, especially for those from a Caribbean heritage, notably elders, where it’s a taboo topic. So how can you take a dense, scientific topic and make it relatable?
By creating an experiment that didn’t take place in a science lab but in places close to their heart, and using what Caribbeans really love…dominoes!

Specially created ones, so they felt even more Caribbean and got the conversation flowing.
Inspired from UK Caribbean homes in the 1950’s and colours from the motherland.

A type face influenced by the iconic lettering on the HMT Windrush ship, for engravings designed to prompt chats about family health.
Each dominoes set a beautiful reflection of Caribbean culture inspired by both UK homes and the islands’ natural beauty.
We launched with a film starring 82 years old Jean and her grandson Tre.
Then reached those in the community at the local cinema.
And the Caribbean community through a targeted outdoor campaign using familiar Patois language in shopping centres, high streets, transit and bus shelters. So they too could watch the film and have the conversation.
And then placing the sets directly into the hands of people across our community.
